Same Great Translation, Bold New Look (somewhat)

mirror moon and Revolve hereby formally announce our merger into a single group: mirror moon.

Ever since mirror moon and Revolve joined forces to tackle Tsukihime years ago, the same staff has been working under two different names. mirror moon was the name applied to TYPE-MOON game translation and Revolve was pretty much anything else. In effect, we have been one group in everything but name, which sometimes led to confusion. As the scale of our projects expand, this distinction grows less relevant and more cumbersome.

Just some of the benefits include:

  • Not having to juggle multiple names for the sake of dubious distinction.
  • Enabling us to eliminate redundancy by consolidating to a single news website and eliminate unnecessary webhosting.
  • Better portraying the scope of our projects as all translations are viewed as coming from a single source.
  • Further centralizing certain processes and decentralizing others.

Our IRC channel will become #mirrormoon@irc.irchighway.net and our new forum location is http://forums.mirrormoon.org.

Future releases will be under the name mirror moon.

Because our merger has happened seamlessly long ago, this will not result in any conflicts of interest, interruptions in progress, or hostile corporate takeovers.

Nothing but eroge talk

Well, time for another blog post. What can I talk about… who am I kidding, eroge. So, I finished all the playable games I bought in Japan (Some games were unplayable on my system –;) So here’s some of the good games I’ve played recently.

First of all, my personal #1 game of the year, KIRA KIRA!!
This game is fucking awesome and the OP is great, too. It’s making me want to buy a guitar… おファック!

Another great game was Harukani aogi, uruwashino. A game with lovely atmosphere, and great characters, especially Miyabi (みやびちゃんぷりちー!)

Next, Koibito doushide surukoto zenbu. This game will literally make you cough up blood and lets you die of moe.

Then there’s Fossette and Kono aozora ni yakusoku wo. I honestly think the game was overrated, but it was still good.

Then there’s Daiakuji. Alicesoft games never fail to get me hooked, and this game succefully made me waste 100hours of my life. –;

There were other good games like StarTRain, 世界でいちばんNG(だめ)な恋, そして明日の世界より

Maybe a little progress report on Heaven’s Feel translation won’t hurt. (I have no idea how the UBW installer is going)
Heaven’s Feel is 15% translated as of now.

New theme + Site maintenance

As some of you might have noticed, we were offline for around half an hour for some maintenance.

And even more of you would’ve noticed the new theme! Please report any bugs and what not that you might notice in the comments. If it is due to Internet Explorer, then it’s not a bug, and don’t bother reporting it if you’re using Internet Explorer, since IE isn’t a real browser :p

Get Firefox in the link that you should see below the header.

Also, if you preferred the older themes, you can still pick them in My Account -> Edit.

Website Theme

As most of you have noticed, we tried out a new theme for the site, which was a direct inverting of all coloured elements. It has now defaulted back to the black one, but for those of you who liked the white one (most of the staff do), you can change it by going to “my account”, then “edit”, then pick your desired theme in there.

The Good Kind of Arrrmatey

By now everybody should be aware that we of mirror moon and Revolve Translations never ask for any form of compensation for our work and effort. We do these projects because we enjoy them, and to promote the genre of these games outside the Japanese markets. We’ve said it before and we will continue saying it: The best way to support us is to buy the games we translate.

Having said that however, I have recently discovered that Turner Classic Movies offers the ability for people to vote which classic movies they should release on DVD. So in an unofficial capacity I would like to ask all you fans out there to help me in my quest: Telling TMC to release the only good kind of piracy!
Treasure Island, starring the number 1 actor of old Charlton Heston, is by virtually all viewers considered to be the best rendition of the book ever made, and I would really want to see it released once more.

This is where you come in! Not as a reward, but as a personal favour to me, I would be very thankful if you could cast a vote in favour of this awesome film. To vote, simply go to this page (link), click on the little brown ‘vote’ button to the right, and enter whatever mailaddress you want. Don’t worry, nothing will be sent to you unless you enable the extra option.

Many thanks for every vote you can get me — Long live the fans!

Utawarerumono Status Thread

I figure I can keep this one updated and stop having to make a bunch of new posts.

Translation: 100%
Proofing: 100%
Editing Pics: 100%
Installer: Vista Testing Remains
Font tweaking remains
Making sure the game just doesn’t crash all the time remains (but this is mostly all done)

Updates:
8 Nov
It’s hard to update percentages on pics since I’m not the one doing them. However, the image editors we brought on board work pretty quickly and I’m pleased with what I’ve seen so far! So don’t worry, progress IS being made and made well.

12 Nov
Edit status only what I’ve confirmed as working in the game (could be higher).

29 Nov
All we need now is an installer and we’re set. Probably not going to have a beta stage…

07 Jan 08
Added some updates to installer status.

Utawarerumono Update: 92.04%

I have been really busy with real life, but progress on story/battle translation is 86.8%. While it certainly doesn’t garner as much press as UBW, look forward to this one too! (I really like it, even if I AM biased)

For me, Eruruw will always win Saimoe!

Edited: Progress is now 92.04% on story/battle translation.

UBW update: Oct 2007

I just wanted to keep a log of this since I want all the editor applicants to read this if they haven’t yet. I also want to explain how we will be tackling UBW.

——————————————————–

A lot has gone on in the past week regarding the project. After going over the editor applications and a lot of talking between the staffs, we have decided that asking for outside editors is not a way to go. I am very sorry for wasting everyone’s effort and time to apply. I cannot apologize enough.

To update people on what we are doing, we have decided that we would have rigorous testing after an initial light-editing phase.

——————————————————–

So our current plan is:
EDITED: Nov 12th

1. I edit the current text. (This is complete)
2. Tester (proofers) go through and recommend changes. I will look over the recommendations and make changes if I see the recommendations valid. (We are here right now)
3. Insert final version of text (This should take like an hour since it’s automated)
4. Beta testing: testing installer (I say this could take couple days to around a week, depending on if bugs appear or not)
5. Release!
